The population of 127 million is the worlds tenth largest,among which majority is urban population, with 90.7% live in cities and rest in countryside.One of the most distinctive feature of Japan’s geography is it does not have a land borders. Neighbouring countries are Russia, Chain, North Korea and South Korea. It is sided by Pacific Ocean and Philippines Sea. 

 

The geographic and economic development has vastly impacted the population and social structures of Japan. As with growth of industry and technology, majority of population moved towards urban areas. Japan has initiated modernisation before industrialisation period stated in Asia. Also, due to non existence of land borders,society is linguistically, ethnically and culturally homogeneous,composed of 98.5% ethnic Japanese. Also In 2003, there were about 134,700 non-Latin American Western, and 345,500 Latin American expatriates, 274,700 of whom were Brazilians. It is a very peculiar feature of Japan society.
