Ghana, officially called Republic of Ghana, is an African country located towards Western Africa.Ghana means Warrior King in the Soninke language. It is bordered by Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Togo and Atlantic Ocean. It is not a landlocked country, as it southern land is faced by Atlantic Ocean, a coastline of more than 500 kms.Ghana was a British Colony and liberated in 6 March 1957. Land mass of Ghana is  238,535 km2 (92,099 sq mi). Ghana’s tropical geography gifts it with diverse geography, climate, nature, flora and fauna. Its diverse geography and ecology ranges from coastal savannahs to tropical rain forests.The population of Ghana  is approximately 28 million with varied diversity in religion, social and economic parameters. Due to its liberal democracy and strong political system, it has been stable politically, which is a feature in Africa. All these factors has contributed towards growth of education, indirectly giving rise to economic prosperity. Ghana has become a regional power in Western Africa due to it’s rising economic standard and prosperity along with strong democratic political system.

Visa Requirement  -

Visa is necessary to enter Ghana, apply for this visa at a Ghanaian embassy; process usually two weeks. By law, visitors entering Ghana must be able to produce a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Ghana provides Visa free access, Visa on Arrival and E visa facilities. Many countries have Visa free access. Documents required for Ghana Tourist Visa are: -

  • Passport Requirements: Original, signed passport valid for 6 months beyond stay in Ghana, with at least one blank passport page available for Ghana visa stamp. Amendment pages in the back of the passport are not suitable for a Ghana visa.
  • Ghana Visa Application Form: Two Ghana visa application forms. After placing your order, fill out the application form included in your Visa Application Kit.
  • Photo Requirements: Two recent 2 x 2 passport type photographs, in color, front view and with a plain/white background. Affix one photograph to each Ghana visa application in the upper right hand corner by staple or glue.
  • Letter Of Invitation.
  • Proof of Travel Arrangements: Computer generated flight itinerary from the airline or a travel agency or copy of airline ticket showing entry and departure from Ghana.
  • Hotel Confirmation.
  • Medical Requirements: All persons entering Ghana are required to have a valid certificate of immunization against yellow fever. The vaccination should be made at least 10 days prior to entry, and should be renewed every 10 years.


Accra is the official Capital of Ghana, also called officially - Accra Metropolitan Area. Accra is the largest City of Ghana, an area of 225.67 km2 (87.13 sq mi), with majority of urban population. estimated urban population of 2.27 million as of 2012. It is a economic, administrative, trade and transportation hub. Accra is located towards south of Ghana, facing Atlantic Ocean, making it a coastal city. Due to its geographical  presence, Accra has managed to become the most trade centre, ultimately becoming Capital City. Economic activities in Accra include the financial and commercial sectors, fishing and the manufacture of processed food, lumber, plywood, textiles, clothing and chemicals. Accra has Wet and Dry climates, as geographical presence in Tropical Climate. Accra is also the educational and public healthcare hub of the country.In 2010, the Globalization and World Cities Research Network think tank designated Accra as a Gamma level world city, indicating a growing level of international influence and connectedness.

Ghana is now becoming an upcoming tourist destination in Africa. Government is  supporting tourism to attract more international tourist and building Ghana as important tourist destination in Africa. Ghana is famous for beaches as have a long coastline, wildlife,nature and eco-tourism, jungle safari is also a major tourist attraction as Ghana lies in sub/Tropical zone.Ghana is also famous for architecture, as more than century of colonialism has created a old colonial landmarks, which still stand today.Shopping is now an increasing tread, as Western tourists are attracted towards different and exclusive fashion trends of Africa.

  • The capital itself is a major tourist destination. Places to visit in Accra are Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and memorial park, Independence Arch in Accra, Osu Castle, also known as Fort Christiansborg or simply the Castle, is a castle located in Osu, Accra. Fort James, Labadi Beach or more properly known as La Pleasure Beach is the busiest beach on Ghanas coast., Cape Coast Castle is one of about forty "slave castles", or large commercial forts, built on the Gold Coast of West Africa by European traders.
  • Kumasi - A capital city of Ashanti region of Ghana.Manhyia Palace is the seat of the Asantehene of Asanteman, as well as his official residence. Kumasi Central Market is an open-air market in the city of Kumasi the capital of Ashanti. Kumasi Central Market is in the Rain Forest Bioregion of Ashanti on the Ashantiland Peninsula.Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary, located in Kumasi, Ghana.
  • Kakum National Park. - Nature reserve with virgin rainforest, a 40m-high canopy walkway, birding trail & tree house.
  • Bia National Park - Located in Western region of Ghana,  is also a biosphere reserve. It is blessed with still untouched tropical rainforests.Home to some of the tallest trees in Western Africa.
  • Wechiau - It is tourist attraction, being home to Hippos.
  • Kintampo or Kintapo.
  • Lake Bosumtwi. - Scenic crater lake surrounded by rainforest & local villages, plus simple waterfront hotels.
  • Akosombo - Famous for lake and rivers. Boating in deep water is major tourist attraction.
  • Mole National Park - Major tourist attraction for wildlife. It is home to Elephants, leopards and rare White - backed vulutres and other major fauna.It also holds waterfalls along the Kparia and Polzen rivers. Larabanga village has a centuries-old, Sudanese-style mosque is also a attraction point for touists.
  • Lake Volta. _ largest man made lake.
  • Aburi Botanical Gardens.

  Language of Ghana

The colonial past have left a deep impact upon the  socio - cultural demographics of Ghana. It has been under colonial oppression of British more than a century, which have left it marks on local languages along with official and administrative languages.

English is the state and widely used lingua franca.French is also  taught and spoken in Ghana, as it is surrounded by French  countries.

Other local official languages are Ga, Asante Twi, Akuapem Twi, Mfantse and Nzema, all african. Dagaare, Dagbani and Hausa -  These are  Mole-Dagbani ethnic languages. Ewe, Dangme and Guan,kasem.
